What is the proper thing to do with a person who was associated with an attack on Kolstad and Caserta, both friends to labor and the Related project, to encourage LaCoursiere and Nadeem to send out a joint attack at the last minute attacking two good candidates?  After all, Jude may not have been responsible, but indications are he knew about it, and his favorite printer may have done it!

If you feel Jude has suffered enough from knowing or associating with an attack on good labor candidates, causing the Related project to be opposed in North Side Santa Clara polls, then use the thumbs up card!!

If you feel that Jude should be shown no mercy for encouraging anti stadium people like Christine Koltermann, wasting money on attacking Stampolis and Song, actually to point of getting them support, suggesting anti labor printers who sent out nasty attacks against Related supporters, and helping raise thousands of dollars for Roseann to spend on attacking Caserta and Kolstad, when it resulted in a anti labor candidate, and person opposed to Related, Kevin Park, to win all the North Side precincts and almost the election, if you feel Related and Jude have a lot to answer for making nasty comments about legitimate public queries about their conduct, then do the right thing and register thumbs down!

remember, Jude called developers, "slimy!"

If anyone had doubts about how serious Steve Westly is in his effort to become California's next governor, they ended the midsummer day he hired Garry South as his senior adviser, the same title South held as campaign boss and political guru for Gray Davis - who didn't always listen.

No one is paying much attention now, with all eyes on the November special election called by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. But Westly's choice of South to run his campaign means California is in for a year of attack politics, with very few punches pulled.

Yes, South has a sense of humor. Yes, he has lost a few, most notably the Davis recall and when he was communications director for failed Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mike Woo in 1993.

But South prides himself on having helped make California a basically Democratic state, noting that he's the only campaign manager in his party in more than 40 years to have steered two winning campaigns for governor.

Two things about South: He never forgets, and his campaigns don't show much mercy. Ask Richard Riordan, the former Los Angeles mayor who beat Woo in a campaign South considered dirty. When Riordan ran for governor in 2002, South took the unprecedented step of unleashing a relentless stream of ads blasting him during the other party's primary.

He painted Riordan as a waffling doofus, making the previously unknown Bill Simon the GOP nominee and easy pickings for the already unpopular Davis.

Now South has revenge on his mind again. He wants first to eliminate state Treasurer Phil Angelides in next June's primary, clearing the way for Westly to face off against Schwarzenegger.

The first thing he'll do is make sure voters know Angelides has entertained the idea of raising taxes to solve state budget problems. Then he'll attack Angelides' business background as a longtime Sacramento-area developer.

SACRAMENTO — Whoops: Call it an oversight. The campaign manager for state Controller Steve Westly said Friday the controller didn't mean to imply that his chief rival in the race to become the Democratic nominee for governor in 2006 is a "slimy developer."
Never mind that the Westly camp e-mailed to Democrats across the state an anonymous quote in a newspaper saying as much about state Treasurer Phil Angelides.
The e-mail has angered Angelides, who himself has been criticized for bare-knuckles campaign tactics in the past, prompting him to demand an apology. And Republicans are delighted to watch the Democrats beat up on each other instead of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The note at issue was distributed late Thursday and encourages Westly supporters to get the word out about a poll of "30 California political experts" published in the Capitol Weekly, a Sacramento publication for state workers and political insiders. The poll concludes that the controller is the toughest potential Democratic opponent for Schwarzenegger.

The e-mail goes further than just spreading that news. It also urges Westly supporters to be sure to tell fellow Democrats about "some of the candid things" the anonymous "experts" had to say about the race in the news article. Among them: Westly "can say that he at first tried to work cooperatively with the governor. Angelides is a slimy developer."\


Chalk it up to a bad editing judgment, Westly campaign manager Jude Barry now says. He said he was merely trying to let the world know about all the positive things these experts had to say about Westly.
So why include the "slimy developer" swipe at the treasurer? A mere oversight, says Barry.
"It is a fairly harsh characterization," Barry said in an interview Friday. "In retrospect, I probably should have edited or excised it out."

Walmart is abandoning efforts to open a store in East New York, Brooklyn — a move that would have established the retailer's first store in New York City.

Although Walmart never confirmed it was in negotiations with Related Companies over a site near Jamaica Bay known as Gateway II, Steven Restivo, a spokesman for the company said in a written statement, "Walmart today announced that we were unable to agree upon economic terms for a project in East New York."
A spokeswoman for Related had no comment.
